You will care for horses up to competition level and work at our commercial Riding School. You will organise and run an equine event, visit Your Horse Live, Badminton Horse Trials and Horse of the Year Show. You will also attend a residential study tour, which includes tours of The National Stud, British Racing School and Rossdales Equine Veterinary Hospital and Tattersals.

Course programme

This programme is aimed at those who wish to develop an active career with horses. It gives a broad-based and in-depth study of the industry and its various disciplines. If you would like to be part of this popular sector with your passion for horses and love of the outdoors then this is the right course for you. The course provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers key knowledge and practical skills required for a successful career in this amazing industry. We aim to provide the best possible vocational experience for our equine students as well as developing their learning and understanding of equine academia. All full-time students participate in yard duties throughout the year alongside their main programme of study. A rota is put in place and will include some weekends. We do provide collection and drop-off facilities at Hereford bus/train station.
Level 3 City & Guilds Diploma in Horse Management (equivalent to 2 A levels) Students will also be given the opportunity to gain BHS qualifications.
Two years
You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course. A selection of unit titles is shown below.
Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects and practical work. This course includes 300 hours of work experience through the duration of the two years.
All students following a full-time programme of study at HLC will study English and maths as part of their studies, please refer to the Study Programmes page of this website.
Progression routes are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria.
