Learning about the structure and function of a horse’s various systems, and how these systems affect its health and performance, students broaden their knowledge of horse care as well as gaining an understanding of business practices and procedures. Through working in the College yard, you will benefit from opportunities to develop your practical and supervisory skills. You will be involved in all aspects of the daily care, handling, training and management of a variety of horses. At the end of the course you should have a fully rounded view of the equine industry and the ability to work in a range of professional equine establishments.

- Understand and promote animal health
- Plan and monitor animal feeding
- Prepare horses for presentation
- Undertake stable and yard management
- Understand animal anatomy and physiology
- Understand the principles of animal biology
- Select, fit and evaluate horse tack equipment
- Understand the principles of equitation
- Undertake and review work-related experience
- A choice of either:
- Understand the principles of animal nutrition
- Riding and exercising horses
- Functional skills/GCSE - English and Maths (if required)
During year 1 (90 Credit and Extended Diploma) students work 1 weekend in every 4, and perform early morning or afternoon duties each weekday.
During year 2 (Extended Diploma) management duties take place every 4th week which includes a whole week of both morning and afternoon duties as well as a weekend.

Extended Diploma - 2 years (available at Hadlow only).
90 Credit Diploma - 1 year.
5 days a week, 34 weeks per year plus work experience.
