This advanced programme will help you learn practical skills and competencies with a broad range of animal collections and prepare you for university. You will assist with running the ‘Ethics Committee’ and undertake supervisory responsibilities in our animal care unit. Also included are residential study opportunities based on ecology and biodiversity.

Course programme

This course is suited to both school leavers and mature learners who have a genuine interest in animal welfare and management. It is based on lectures, practical duties and work experience.
This is the perfect programme if you are intending to work within the animal industry and want to learn more about the wider concepts relating to the management, welfare and biology of animals. The course is well recognised if you wish to progress to an animal-related higher education qualification, or find employment in this sector.
Level 3 C&G Diploma/Extended Diploma in Animal Management (equivalent to 3 A levels)
Two years
You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course. A selection of unit titles is shown below.
Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects and practical work. This course includes 300 hours of work experience through the duration of the two years and must include experience with kennels and catteries.
All students following a full-time programme of study at HLC will study English and maths as part of their studies, please refer to the Study Programmes page of this website.
