You will study the business environment, business resources, marketing and business communication, alongside the principles of coaching sport.
This programme is ideally suited for those with a genuine interest in business and football but who also have the ability and determination to succeed. We ask that applicants are ideally actively involved with a sports team with the potential opportunity to volunteer as a coach. There is an expectation for all sport and business students to take part in college enrichment activities, before lessons and on Wednesday afternoons, throughout the year.
This programme will provide you with an opportunity to gain an insight into the wide and diverse nature of this growing sector. The programme retains a strong academic base, whilst including practical units and modules. You will need to be confident, self- motivated and a good communicator as this will stand you in good stead for your research work as well as your work placement.
Projects and assignments will be based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will learn about the employment area you have chosen and develop the skills you need to start a career, as well as grow your understanding of the sports and fitness industry, learning important practical and organisational skills to support your progression in business.
The business side of this qualification is equivalent to an A Level, which means that on completion of the programme you can continue onto another sports related or event management programme at Eastleigh College to boost your UCAS points in order to continue onto Higher Education. Alternatively you can go into employment using your business knowledge and your nationally recognised industry qualifications in football / FUTSAL.
With our help, all students are expected to organise a relevant work placement each year. In addition to this, you are expected to help voluntarily at college enrichment and sporting events around the College as well as with local business and charity events.
All students without an A*-C grade in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.Throughout the year assessment for the Business units is undertaken using a variety of assessment methods and styles. Each assignment will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction level and contributes to the unit and overall programme grades. Each of the units will have three to five assignments. These assignments may be reports, presentations, practical assessments or research projects. Coaching assessment will be through a combination of written work and practical demonstrations.
Attendance in the College is an average of 16 hours per week of contact time. In addition to this, it is expected for students to complete a further 8-12 hours of independent study both in college and at home.
This programme can only be studied as a Subsidiary Diploma.
