Entry Requirements - This course is open to candidates of 19 years and over, and there are no barriers on the grounds of sex, race, creed or academic attainment in learning. However, candidates must be employed in a work place relevant to the occupational standards and be in a suitable role to enable them to complete the qualification successfully.

Course programme
Outline of the Programme - Each unit within the Diploma has a credit rating and to achieve the QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care learners must complete 5 shared mandatory units and further mandatory units according to which social care setting the individuals work in along with a choice of optional knowledge and competence units equalling an overall 80 credits from several units.

Unit 1 Use and Develop Systems that Promote Communication
Unit 2 Promote Professional Development
Unit 3 Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Unit 4 Develop Health and Safety and Risk Management Policies Procedures and Practices in Health and Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings
Unit 5 Work in Partnership in Health and Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings
The optional knowledge and competence units cover varies areas of leadership and management in health and social care in different settings such as supporting those with disabilities, learning disabilities or dementia, individuals working with children and young people and supported living.
Assessment - Assessment takes place through evaluation of work-based performance, presenting evidence, witness testimony, recognition of prior learning and questioning. A portfolio of evidence is produced which demonstrates that the candidate can perform to the level described. Each QCF Diploma assessor will help assemble the portfolio and prepare for assessment. In addition the candidates will have access to email and telephone support throughout their programme together with resources as required.
How long will it take? - 3 months. An assessor will spend a full day with you collecting direct observations along with personal statements, reflective accounts and if possible witness statements. Once we have cross referenced this against your units we can set assessments to cover the remaining units. We would expect between 3-5 hours of additional work each week to complete in this time frame.
Progression
On completion of this programme candidates are able to progress on to Level 7 Diploma in Leadership and Management within Health and Social Care.
