Method of assessment
30% of your AS Level grade is from oral exams, and the rest of your marks are gained in an exam which tests your comprehension, and includes a listening test. The A2 exam also consists of an oral (30%) plus reading and listening comprehension. In addition at A2 there is an essay component which tests your writing skill and your knowledge of German culture and society.

Why choose this course?
Skill in using a foreign language is an increasingly valuable asset and leads to many exciting career opportunities. Language graduates figure high on the list of most employable graduates, and a language can be combined with almost any university course to widen your options even further. In an expanding Europe, cultural and linguistic awareness is an important asset, and if you have enjoyed studying German at GCSE, you should find it a worthwhile challenge to develop your communicative skills further.

What will I study?
In this course you will increase your understanding of German grammatical structures and widen your vocabulary by studying topics like the environment, problems of immigration and drugs. Emphasis will be placed on raising your written and spoken German to a level at which you will be able to communicate effectively in many situations.

Huish Extra
You will have the chance to improve your oral skills in individual sessions with a native speaker of the language. All students have access to German satellite television and you will also have the chance to participate in a trip to Germany.
