You will learn about how the political system in the UK operates, how Parliament works, how decisions are made, how political parties and pressure groups function, and how democracy.

About this course
Minimum 5 GCSE grade A* - C in relevant subjects including English Language. Please note, a GNVQ Intermediate or BTEC First qualification counts as equivalent to 2 GCSEs.

Government & Politics A level will introduce you to some of the key concepts in UK politics, and will also allows you to explore in depth the ideologies which underlie different political systems and decisions. You will learn about how the political system in the UK operates, how Parliament works, how decisions are made, how political parties and pressure groups function, and how democracy is achieved. You will also consider the relationship between the UK and the European Union whilst keeping up to date with the continuous changes in British politics.

Covers the following themes:

- Party policies and ideas

- Pressure groups
Covers the following topics:
- The Constitution
- Parliament
- Prime Minister and Cabinet
- Judges and Civil Liberties
A2 Level (Second year of course)
Key Themes in Political Analysis
Consists of studying the following political ideologies:
- Conservatism
- Liberalism
- Socialism
- Anarchism
You will study other ideological traditions as follows:
- Nationalism
- Feminism
- Ecologism
- Multiculturalism
Throughout the course you will be given regular assessed written tasks to help you develop the skills necessary for exam success. You will be formally assessed by exams in June.
Where can I go after completing the course?
You could study for a degree, for example, politics international relations, development studies etc. Politics graduates enter a range of careers including the civil service, working for local government, and in the voluntary sector (charities etc), journalism, public relations, education, health and other public sector
