A previous knowledge of Information Technology is not required for entry to the course. Full-time students will be expected to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above.

Course summary:
This one-year course leads to an AS level, which is a qualification in its own right. It can also be used as the first half (50%) of an A level qualification.

G061: Information, Systems and Applications (External)
Topics covered in this unit:

Data, information, knowledge and processing
Software and hardware components of an information system
Characteristics of standard applications software and application areas
Spreadsheet concepts
Applications software used for presentation and communication of data
The role and impact of ICT - legal, moral and social issues.

G062: Structured ICT Tasks (Coursework)
Candidates have the opportunity to explore design, software development, testing and documentation.

Assessment procedure:
For external marking G061: 2hr exam AS - 60% A Level - 30%

Coursework G062 AS - 40% A Level - 20%

Qualifications achieved:
GCE AS Level Information and Communication Technology, awarded by AQA

Progression opportunities:
Successful students could progress to an A2 Level in Information Technology.
