What are the entry requirements?
It is NOT a requirement for you to have studied GCSE P.E
If you ARE studying GCSE P.E, you need to gain at least a C grade.
If you do NOT study GCSE P.E, you need a C grade in Science and English.

Course Description
What kind of student do I need to be?
You need to have a genuine interest in Sport and P.E.
You need to be physically active and enjoy practical work.
You need to want to STUDY the THEORY of the subject IN DETAIL.
What happens in lessons?
You will have 4.5 hours of lessons a week.
1 hour on practical (with a view to aiding practical marks)
3½ hours of theory.
What will I learn and how is it assessed?
AS a stand alone qualification or 50% of A2
UNIT 1 60% 2 hour externally assessed written exam
1. Anatomy and Physiology - about the body.
2. Skill Acquisition - about how we learn movement.
3. Contemporary Studies - about sport in society and in schools
UNIT 2 - 40% internally assessed coursework
Candidates will be assessed in:
1. Performing two activities from two different activity profiles and Evaluating and planning for the improvement of performance
2. Performing one activity and coaching / leading one activity from two different activity profiles together with Evaluating and Planning for the improvement of performance
3. Performing one activity and officiating one activity from two different activity profiles together with Evaluating and Planning for the improvement of performance

UNIT 3 - 35% 2.5 hour externally assessed written exam
1. Historical Studies in Sport and P.E
2. Sport Psychology OR Biomechanics
3. Exercise and Sport Physiology.
UNIT 4 - 15% internally assessed coursework
- Assessment of your ability to either perform, coach/lead or officiate in one activity (suggested level 3 NGB Award)
- Response to a live performance. Recommend a detailed strategy for improvement in performance.
What could I do with a qualification in this subject?
AS and A2 P.E are recognised by Universities and Employers as worthwhile qualifications in their own right so can simply be studied because you enjoy the subject. Degrees in Sports Science or Sports Studies at University which could lead into a career e.g Teaching, Coaching, Sports Psychology, Physiotherapy, Sports Development, Leisure Industry, Recreational Management, Health and Fitness Industry and Professional Sport.
