A-Levels: Mathematics - Additional

Why study Additional Mathematics?
This is a one year course designed to meet the needs of students who wish to continue the study of Mathematics
beyond GCSE but for whom AS Mathematics is not immediately appropriate. On successful completion of the course, students are eligible to start an AS Mathematics course, if they wish. Students need to enjoy Maths and to be logical and enjoy solving problems. The course is taught at a slower pace to that of other Maths courses, giving students the opportunity to develop their skills.

What do I study?
The course is divided into five topics including: Number, Algebra, Graphs, Probability & Statistics and Trigonometry.
There is no coursework for this course. At the end of the year students sit one exam lasting two hours.

Where does Additional Mathematics take me?

Initially students may progress on to an AS Mathematics course in their second year. Employers have a high regard
for all Mathematics qualifications across a wide variety of career areas.
