Why study Media Studies?
Media Studies is a rigorous academic subject both visually interesting and dynamic in its content. It is vocationally
relevant to a range of professions from Journalist to Magazine Editor, Film Scriptwriter to TV Producer to Advertising Copywriter. It is also one of the fastest expanding courses at university. Studying the media gives you a chance of understanding one of the most powerful and influential forms of mass communication available.

What do I study?
Year 1 (AS)
Unit 1: Media Representations and Responses
A diverse and exciting examination of the content of media forms, e.g. Advertising, Television, New Digital Media, Film, Radio and Newspapers analysing how they communicate with their target audience. Students will also examine how individuals and social groups are represented in a wide range of media. The unit carries an external assessment of a 2-½ hour written exam.
Unit 2: Media Production Processes
This coursework module combines both pre-production, production and evaluation in the form of a written report allowing students to make essential connections between theory and practice. You will be making and analysing your
own media products.
Year 2 (A2)
Unit 3: Media Investigation and Production
This unit involves a written investigation into the media based on one or more key concepts genre, narrative or
representation, a media production and an evaluation. This unit forms the second year coursework requirements.

Unit 4: Media - Text, Industry and Audience
Students will study three different media industries e.g. British Film, Television and Advertising complementing their
analytical and production work. The unit will be assessed by a 2-½ hour written exam.

and Communications, such as Advertising, Journalism and Marketing.
