Course programme

Summary

The Links course provides a structured and secure environment whilst allowing students to experience a varied college curriculum. The course aims to support and stretch students to become as independent as possible. Students mix with other groups throughout the week encouraging them to work on their communication and social skills.

There is a focus on progression and the course aims to prepare students for their next step whether this is a further course within City College Norwich or to other services. The course provides a set group timetable but within this the majority of students have an individual timetable to cater to their particular needs. E.g. students working at a higher academic level for literacy and numeracy will work towards Functional Skills qualifications at the appropriate level rather than join the rest of the group for English and Maths. Tasters in others courses are likely to become part of the timetable and students may work between two groups as the year progresses if this is deemed to be the best way to move them forwards to their next step.

Staff will challenge students to continuously progress throughout the year and ensure that any barriers are removed to enable each to meet their full potential. Due to the individualised nature of the course it is suitable for students working between pre-entry and entry who may not ‘fit’ on other courses within the area.
