What do I need to get on the course? Your level of English will be assessed.
What will I study?
Learners will work towards a City and Guilds Level 1 Adult Literacy Test working on improving their skills in Reading, Writing and S&L.
What qualification will I get?
Most learners take external examinations (City & Guilds) online as advised by the tutor.
What can I do after the course?
You can progress in employment or onto further courses
How do I get on the course?
Come in to the Centre where you want to study to make an appointment to have your level of English assessed Monday to Thursday 10am-7pm, Friday 10am-1pm.
How much does the course cost?
ESOL courses are free if you are on income-based benefits, eg income support or housing benefit.
If you are not on benefit but are on a low income, you may also get help with fees. General information about the cost of ESOL courses is available in the following languages: Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, Greek, Gujurati, Hindi, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu, and Vietnamese. When you enrol, you need to bring
· Evidence of your status in the UK â€" e.g. your passport or Home Office letter
· Evidence of your income if you are claiming concessions - your wage slips, benefit letter or National Asylum Support Service (NASS) letter.
If you need to pay fees, these depend on the length of course and can range from about £200 for a Saturday course to £1000 for a fulltime course. You will be advised of the exact fee after assessment has determined the appropriate course for you.
