Storytelling can, at first glance, seem to be a simple act; but telling powerful stories that make an impact takes work. In this first week students will look at how to learn stories. By examining narrative structure students will learn how to reconstruct stories to make them more impactful. This course will also look at how we integrate the body and the voice to make stories more effective. Over the course of the week we will examine how nerves and stress play a role in how we deliver stories, and how best to overcome them. Finally the course will explore the art of listening to the self and to an audience, and how this can make us more effective communicators.

During the second week, you will apply the skills-sets acquired and deepen your understanding of all artistic aspects of live oral storytelling including poetic language, rhythm and working with imagery. Through a varied set of training techniques and personal coaching, you will work in depth on your chosen stories and develop your performance skills. Topics such as co telling, personal stories and story dramaturgy complement the curriculum.
