This highly practical and comprehensive 30-week course (Level 2 – Accreditation) covers a wide selection of technical and specialist modules within the field of make-up for media.
Whether you are pursuing a career in the make-up industry, exploring a second career option or thinking of furthering your studies into higher education, this course will allow you to build a solid foundation of learning and understanding. You will develop and apply specialist skills and techniques creating a range of make-up designs and hair artistry expressions.
During the course, you will be encouraged to develop your creativity and practice new skills and techniques with others on your course. This will allow you to understand how to work with different face and eye-shapes, increase your awareness of skin types and textures, realise a design or client brief, whilst developing your practical application techniques.
During the three immersive terms, you will be guided through multiple topics in which to focus on; expanding your knowledge, increasing your skill level in creative make-up applications and design, working in a professional environment, health and safety aspects and communication skills. You will also develop research and ideas to showcase your own make-up and hair artistry designs.
As your skills develop, you will explore professional practice and how to work to a client brief. The course takes place in a realistic, comfortable and professional working environment offering the opportunity for progression into the make-up arena or further learning. Through a series of talks, demonstrations, specialist workshops with expert teaching support, you will develop your professional understanding, practical skills and construct a portfolio to showcase your skills and talent.

The course aims to:
Enhance your knowledge of what it takes to be a successful make-up artist
To develop research, analytical and self-assessment skills
Enable you to increase your confidence in make-up application through expert support, experimentation and creativity
Provide learning to develop your understanding of a wide variety of practical make-up application techniques suitable for day, evening and special looks
Provide information on the health and safety aspects of make-up artistry and working in a professional studio environment
Enable you to independently plan and realise your designs and receiving feedback from professionals
Provide you with the essential skills to move into the professional arena or apply for FE/HE enhanced studies
We recommend you complete the Professional Make-up Techniques- An Introduction course or have equivalent understanding of the subject: please contact the Short Course team if you wish to clarify if this course is appropriate for you.
The minimum age for this course is 19 years.
