About this course

Get ready for Christmas in this two-hour workshop where you will create your own beautiful decorations in fused glass.

No previous experience is necessary. You will be guided by the tutor through each stage of the project. You will be using simple hand tools therefore average dexterity will be necessary.

Course programme

How will I learn?

You will learn by making a finished piece. All glass work you create will be taken to a glass studio in the Ouseburn Valley to be fired in a kiln and will be available for you to collect from Gosforth Library the following week.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

You will be continually monitored and assessed by your tutor.

Progression opportunities

You can progress onto art and craft courses in a choice of subjects. Your tutor will be able to give you advice and guidance.

What equipment or materials will I need to provide?

Glass will be provided for you to work with and the cost will depend upon the number and size of decorations you decide to create. Typical amounts can range between £2 and £10.
There will be additional costs to cover kiln firings. For example, a coaster-sized panel will cost £1.50 to fire and an A4 size will cost £6.50. Further details will be provided by the tutor in week 1.

What other support is available?

Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify. For further details please ask when enrolling.
