Course programme

Making Choices is an orientation programme with the aim of helping people to make informed decisions about choosing a career in working with children, young people and families. The programme was originally developed in 1999 in response to the National Childcare Strategy. We took part in the 2004 review of Making Choices, which ensured that the programme was up to dat and in line with current and future trends in the development of children's services.

We use a range of training tools and delivery techniques to create engaging and high quality sessions, and learning is facilitated throughout sessions
using PowerPoint, education film, interactive network projection, practical activities and fact sheets. The programme also features visits to a range of settings, enabling participants to gain an insight into what it would be like to work in different environments.

Making Choices is a flexible twelve-hour programme consisting of individual sessions that follow a structure of session-specific aims and objectives, skills
and knowledge, discussion and reflection, summary and a set task for the next session.

We can timetable Making Choices to meet your specifications, with delivery options in the morning, afternoon or evening. We can structure the twelve hour programme into two sessions of six hours, three sessions of four hours, four sessions of three hours, or six sessions of two hours, depending on your needs, and the needs of participants.

Making Choices is accredited by SkillsActive, and participants who complete the programme will be awarded a certificate. The programme is not a qualification but assurance that participants have considered their options
before choosing to enter the sector, and are aware of the importance of undertaking appropriate qualifications.
