  • Two staff undertook this a s part of a organisational analysis & plan presented by SDL. They have provided excellent insight and knowledge and support at all times and both managers have reported that they feel more confident and ready to take on more challeges and that they responded well to the work-based learning approach. They both reported that they felt their Assessor quickly understood them & offered practical advice and a sense of informality that they responded to - whilst understanding their schedules and not patronising them as 'trainees' but respecting them as working adults with experience. Recommended.

  • From the very beginning I knew that this was right for me - I had been recommended SDL and they swiftly met me and we started to plan my units. This way is excellent if you are working and cannot give time to attend evenings or travel to college. We agreed my 'plan' and then it soon became routine to prepare and deliver work. Assessor was a great chap and also really useful & commited to supporting me. This is a great way to learn and you do not have to change your routine - also was accredited for all the previous training I had done so some units had already got work towards them. Nice one!

  • Personal development & satisfaction. Definitely will reinforce employment security. Fitted in with my schedule and work hours. Cost/Time was negligible and I have really enjoyed the whole experience - started to think again which can only be a good thing. Never hassled and flexible in meetings/sessions and also the use of email. You are not doing things for the sake of it - everything is real and based on work.
Amazing guys who know their stuff - also are a pleasure to know and useful to discuss ideas with. Will certainly keep in contact with them. Course is designed with what I wanted to achieve and the service given was first class. They immediately get right into your business and work role and get you searching for evidence. As an aside they also know a lot about other training, qualifications & development and have discussed opportunities for myself, colleagues and also family and friends - very useful indeed especially STEM Leadership Skills for young people - many thanks!

What could be improved: On reflection I didn't find any drawbacks at all and have found that I miss the structure of the meetings - just go for it now!

What I would highlight: From my initial meeting with them I immediately felt very at ease and also instantly confident with my choice of provider who came highly recommended via a social contact. I have dealt with the 'youth' side of the market many times as a manager but was very impressed that SDL are differently focused and they work with adults, those that have professional development needs and those that are in work - being able to discuss my requirements & actually have this decyphered and then translated to my objectives was brilliant and this is unique thing indeed. I felt as if was in control at all times and had full support always - being able to 'spark' with my assessor who was also a time-served manager was very useful and not just to my evidence collection! - they know their stuff! Recommended without exception and where to go to next?....already have a session planned with them to discuss options plus my ideas for apprenticeships!

What I would highlight: I consider that the level was right and this was also agreed with my assessor who discussed this and also had me complete skills scans to see actually what I did. I had seen trainees complete NVQs before and was surprised that it wasn't 'dragged on' like I had experinced and also that my assesors remained constant!!I also met the Internal verifier too - I was assured that this is normal practice for SDL and that they are customer focused always and also as it was privately funded there were in fact fewer restrictions!
It fits in well with work as you produce the work by working - sounds strange I know but it does actually work like that!!
Chose my units in consultation and got an action plan of what to do at the first meeting - really pleased to see that they meant business from the start.
The team at SDLare really nice people and are down to earth and helpful. I was treated like a 40 year old and not as a trainee and this was good and we also managed to have a laugh as we got to know each other. So they don't seem like authority types.
They come to you - theysay this and they mean it! Arranged times and sesions are always agred and they call you that day to see if its still manageable. I had to rearrange twice due to work but they are really understanding and even got me to explain why i was so busy - this ended up in my file! Amazing how they identify evidence!
I can honestly say that I learnt a fair bit about management and also myself and also have perhaps more importantly got a bit more confident in that I can manage and also do a fair bit - I have also got the motivation to do more and have started looking at systems and procedures reorganising at work!!!
What could be improved: Nothing at all - because it is a different way to get a qualification I didn't and cannot see how you couldn't like the experience - oh & no exams so again what's not to like.

What I would highlight: Practical and interesting and can fit in well with work committments. SDL are really helpful and supportive and didn't find any problems in getting to grips with the course. The paperwork was not as heavy going as I had seen with other NVQs and as I was paying for a service they certainly delivered and explained that most volumes of paperwork come from funded schemes - pleased I wasn't eleigible!!! Collecting evidence is a great way to show what you do and I was surprised at how it all interlinks. Being visited regularly and also telephone/emails was an excellent way to do it and I genuinely enjoyed the experience and will certainlybe recommended this to my colleagues and associates.
