Link Worker Course
This is a practical course designed for nominated link workers whose duties require them to carry out manual handling risk assessments and support/supervise colleagues who have attended foundation level moving and handling training. It will inform them of the current legal and professional obligations that relate to moving and handling and enable them to carry out manual handling risk assessments within their work setting. The course will explore the organisation's moving and handling policy and explain the management systems necessary to ensure safer moving and handling.
A variety of teaching methods will be used including group work, discussion, risk assessment exercises, practise of load handling and assisting people to move. Handbooks will be provided.
Course includes:
- The introduction of a management system for moving and handling activities.
- Module A - Legislation and employers policy, ergonomics and risk assessment, structure and function of the spine, causes of injury, principles of safer moving and handling
- Module B - Load handling, posture care and fitness
- Module C - Individual handling assessment and plans, controversial practices, mobility assistance
- Module D - Assistance with bed mobility
- Module E - Assistance with transfers and personal care
- Module F - Safe Use of equipment including beds, wheelchairs, hoists and slings
