Course programme

Applicants should normally be at least 18 years of age. Applications are invited from a wide range of backgrounds including mature students who hold relevant work experience and/or qualifications, and/or learning through experience. Applicants with more recent level 3 or National Certificate/Diploma in Engineering, AVCE full award or GNVQ Advanced in Engineering/A-Level students with mathematics and an appropriate science. Applicants will normally be invited for interview. International applicants will be required to have an IELTS score of 5.5/6 achieved within the last two years to apply for this course. Course Content To achieve the HNC Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering you will need to complete a minimum of 120 credits of which 50 credits are mandatory core. The mandatory core units for HNC are: • Analytical methods for engineers (15 credits) • Engineering science (15 credits) • Project design, implementation and evaluation (20 credits). In addition to the mandatory core you will also study the following units: • Supply Chain Management (15 credits) • Business Management Techniques for Engineers (15 credits) • Health, Safety and Risk Assessment in Engineering (15 credits) • Computer-aided Design and Manufacture (15 credits) • Managing People in Engineering (15 credits). Unit Descriptor Handbook How will I be assessed? Much of the study will require work outside of formal classes, so self-motivation and good time management skills are essential. As a guideline you are advised that a 15-credit unit approximates to a learning time of 150 hours. The course is predominantly assessed through the completion of large projects that you will undertake both individually and in groups. Progression The HNC is equivalent to Year 1 of a Degree, so many universities will accept students with HNC to Year 2 of a BA/BSc Honours Degree Fees The course fees for all students for this course will be £3000 per annum for 2016/17.
