About this course

No formal qualifications are required for the level 2 PEO, though students must demonstrate a positive attitude to learning and developing themselves at interview, followed by an assessment test. For mature students the entry criteria will be discussed on an individual basis.

Marine Engineering NVQ Level 2

About the course:
Students will study the level 2 qualification as well as key skills, where appropriate, at levels 1 and 2. The qualification comprises 6 units, though additional units may be undertaken for those contemplating Modern Apprenticeship. This qualification allows students to progress onto higher level courses such as the 'Maritime Technology Certificate' or Advanced Apprenticeship.

Course Content:
Essential [Mandatory] units must be taken by all students. - Working safely in an engineering environment. - Developing yourself and working with other people on engineering activities. - Using and communicating technical information. - Marking out for engineering activities. The two recommended units for marine engineering are:- - Using computer software packages to assist in engineering activities. - Machining Additional Units can be undertaken though will be subject to a surcharge. - Identifying and selecting engineering materials - Maintaining mechanical devices ams systems - Producing engineering drawings using computer aided design - Making components from composite materials.

Learning Style:
The course is conducted over 3 days per week for up to 35 weeks.

Progression:
Upon successful completion of the level 2, students can progress onto the Maritime Technology Traineeship or an Advanced Apprenticeship.
