How is the programme taught?

With over 40 years of combined practitioner experience, our teaching team will deliver a programme that is not only academically rigorous but is highly geared towards the reality of working as a modern-day marketer.

You will be taught using a combination of the following:

  • lectures
  • small group sessions
  • online training

The small group sessions in particular will have a strong emphasis on student-centered learning. This means many of the classes will include practical skills sessions in which you will actually do the work of a marketing professional rather than just talk about it!

The standard ratio of lectures to small group sessions is 1:1, allowing for 90 minutes of lectures and 90 minutes of small group sessions in a typical week for a 15 credit module (double for a 30 credit module).

In addition, you will have the opportunity to access some of the live lectures in recordings via the Business School’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Emphasis throughout the programme is placed on developing practical and pro-active marketing professionals through delivery which encourages self-development, participation and team work. Teaching delivery through the programme’s modules will include a combination of:

  • interactive whole group sessions (WGS)
  • marketing simulation exercises
  • group work
  • reading on articles and case studies
  • sessions held by leading industry speakers
  • question and answer forums
  • online and face to face discussion exercises

Once qualified, you will have developed the confidence and ability to apply your highly relevant knowledge and skills to meet various marketing challenges within the workplace.

You will also have interacted and worked alongside people from a diverse range of backgrounds including experienced industry professionals all within an business-orientated environment.

Assessment

The programme is assessed on a module-by-module basis using a combination of:

  • coursework
  • closed-book examinations
  • supervised independent project

Assessments are designed to encourage you to find your own solutions to marketing problems and to stretch you intellectually enabling you to develop the pro-activity required to become a highly skilled marketing professional.

Many of the assessments are also designed around the tasks you would be required to perform as a marketing professional including creating marketing plans and professional consultancy reports in addition to performing individual presentations.

Programme materials will contain mock assessments, revision packs and consolidation activities to fully prepare you for the real assessments.

Formal and informal feedback is given throughout the programme to help you achieve success and maximise your potential.

Mode of study

Unlike traditional part-time masters programmes which usually run over a fixed two year period, BPP's flexi-mode of study doesn't restrict you to a definate period of time.

It allows you to study for your masters programme at any period between 16 months and five years through part-time study or a combination of full-time and part-time study.

This highly flexible delivery mode also allows you to speed up or slow down the pace in which you complete your masters programme by giving you the option to control the number of modules you undertake each term (up to 60 credits).

In addition, BPP's MSc Marketing programme offers other forms of flexibility, including:

  • Choice of class times including day and evening classes
  • Option to take a ‘study break’ at the end of each term and then re-enter onto the programme through one of our three start dates a year
  • Three start dates a year (January, May and September) to ensure you never have to wait more than four months to join the programme or re-enter after a study break
  • Three tiered award system meaning if you choose not to complete the whole MSc, you can still obtain either a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing after successfully passing the first 60 or 120 credits of the programme
