The Programme
This is a natural progression from GCSE Mathematics. You will build on existing pure Mathematics skills, sometimes using computer software to aid learning. Statistics and Mechanics will add variety and experience of different mathematical topics.
The Programme Content
You will study Core Mathematics Module 1 in term one. This module covers algebra, coordinate geometry, sequences and series and an introduction to calculus. In terms two and three you will study Core Mathematics Module 2 and Statistics Module 1. Core Mathematics Module 2 builds upon skills already studied in the first module together with an introduction to exponentials and logarithms. All students will find the Statistics Module 1 useful, topics studied include probability, correlation and regression together with statistical distributions.
In year two, the modules studied will be Core Mathematics 3, Core Mathematics 4 building on the techniques studied in year 1, together with Mechanics Module 1, thus allowing students to gain experience in a wider range of mathematical skills.
Progression / Careers
Some of you will wish to pursue a further study of Mathematics to degree level, others will use Mathematics as a supporting subject.
