Mathematics Enhancement Course

Overview
The Mathematics Enhancement course will provide you with opportunities to explore pure and applied mathematics at advanced level and university level. When tackling new mathematics, you will be challenged to not just ask yourself what? or how? but also why? Two short school placements will help you further develop this ‘deep’ understanding. You will also be introduced to a range of ICT software packages which have revolutionised the teaching of mathematics.
Team support is a key feature of the course. The course begins with a residential induction in North Wales which provides students and tutors with the opportunity to get to know each other in a relaxed setting.
A team of enthusiastic and experienced tutors will support you. Your tutors’ enthusiasm and expertise will enable you to have an enjoyable but intensive six months which will provide you with sound and rewarding preparation for Initial Teacher Education.
Although there is no award for the Mathematics Enhancement Course, successful completion will see you progress directly onto an Initial Teacher Education route, such as PGCE or School Direct, where you will find that you have developed the mathematical understanding required to teach the 11-18 curriculum with confidence.
