Course overview

GCSE Mathematics develops your understanding of mathematics and gives you the confidence to tackle problems in the work place and everyday life. It covers the four areas of study: Statistics, Number, Shape and Space, Algebra.

A GCSE in Mathematics gives convincing evidence to employers, colleges and universities that you are able to do Maths. A Grade C at GCSE Maths is a requirement for many jobs and courses.

Special entry requirements

You will need to have achieved a grade D at GCSE Maths although we accept most mature students without a GCSE grade.

How you will learn

The course is divided into 3 modules:

Module 1 - Statistics - taught between September and November

Module 3 Number - taught between November and January

Module 5 - Shape and Space and Algebra - taught between January and May

The course is delivered through a series of workbooks which covers all aspects of the course. Lessons are generally teacher led and homework is set weekly.

For mature students we will assume little prior knowledge.

There is no coursework.

How you will be assessed

You will be assessed on a continuous basis throughout the year using the weekly homeworks. In addition you will sit external exam modules in November, March and June. This will enable you to monitor your progress.
