Overview
Through Liverpool Hope’s well-established partnerships with schools in the region, you will be able to gain experience of teaching Mathematics across the 11–18 age range and across a wide range of student ability. The Mathematics team works closely with experienced practitioners in schools who support student teacher progression on placement. The pedagogy of mathematics is an important emphasis on the course, and trainees will encounter innovative and engaging approaches to mathematics teaching, enabling them to become confident mathematics practitioners. Trainees will have opportunities for involvement in the wider mathematics education community, through for example enrichment masterclasses and intervention projects. The employment rates for the course are outstanding, as are the completion and exit grades.
All Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses at Liverpool Hope offer students the opportunity to combine a programme of theory with real world experience. The initial professional development focuses on what underpins the work of an effective and successful teacher, while school placements offer you the opportunity to put theory into practice.
Initial Professional Development (IPD): This part of the programme covers the general, more holistic aspects of becoming a teacher. It is largely lecture-based supported by discussion-based seminars with an assigned professional tutor. IPD develops the student teacher's knowledge and understanding of a range of key issues in education.
