Media
The course is divided into six units. You need to ensure that you pass every unit to be able to successfully complete the course. You will be studying moving image within television and film as well as printed issues within newspapers and advertising. You will be able to experience what it is like to work within the media with much of the work on a practical level, although there will be many presentations and debates within class to ensure full understanding.

Unit 1 Introduction to media
Investigates the various formats of the media.

Unit 2 Pre-production
Research unit into the popularity of horror films.

Unit 3 Introduction to Production
Making the front page of a newspaper and investigating the newspaper industry.

Unit 4 Marketing and presenting a media product
Explores marketing and advertising concepts within the film-making world.

Unit 6 Exploring moving image products
Making the opening sequence of a horror film, script writing, storyboards, filming and digitally editing.

Unit 9 Exploring photography and digital imaging
Taking different types of photographs, saving them in databases, editing and manipulating the images and creating a moving slide show to exhibit your work.Each unit is awarded the following grades: Pass (one mark), Merit (two marks) or Distinction (three marks).To be awarded an overall Pass you must successfully pass every unit. Pass marks are within the boundaries of six - nine marks.To be awarded a Merit you must achieve 10 - 13 marks.To be awarded a Distinction you must achieve at least 14 marks overall. Maximum marks at the end of the year are 18.If you elect to follow this course you could study GCSE Mathematics, English or possibly GCSE Science alongside this vocational media course, which will be your main area of study.This course will allow you to acquire many skills that are needed in the workplace, such as the ability to work with others, being part of a team, decision making and problem solving.
