About this course
You will have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C. At least THREE must be from : English Language or Literature/Humanities (History,Geography,RS,Sociology,Psychology)/Business/Science (Core and Additional OR triple)/Maths. Alternatively you will have a DISTINCTION in a Level 2 Diploma OR an NVQ2 OR a CACHE Cert.

Media Production (Television and Film) National Award
Video and TV production is the focus of this exciting course. You will learn technical, professional and creative skills and gain an understanding into how the industry operates. A study of key directors and productions will develop your awareness of the range of techniques available.
What does the course involve?
You will be exploring the techniques used to communicate messages through the moving image, linking your own knowledge to that of actual media practice. There will be group work on practical video productions, and opportunities for you to produce individual videos. You will be given training in all aspects of video work, including camera operation and editing techniques, using non-linear equipment. You will gain research and communication skills as well as training in observing safe practices in the workplace. The course involves a significant written element.
What will I study?
BTEC National Award is a two year course, usually taken by school leavers and is equivalent in time and commitment to 1 A Level. It has an academic base but places a strong emphasis on vocational training and practical skills. The National Award in Media (Video) includes modules in these areas: Research Techniques, Understanding the TV and Film Industries, Pre-Production Techniques, Film and Video Editing Techniques, Single Camera Techniques, Music Video Production. All modules are compulsory. In order to complete the course, a pass must be gained in all modules.

How much of this course is practical?
The course explores what you need to understand to produce effective video productions. About 40% of the course is written work and research into the media industry, existing films, videos and TV programmes. This will include planning and evaluation for your own work. 60% of the course is video skills training and production work.
