Why should I come to Pendleton College?
The National Diploma is an excellent introduction into the world of media. For students thinking about a media related career, will give you skills, training and experience of the demands of working in this expanding employment sector. Our TV studio, video editing and print production facilities give students the chance to produce excellent work.
What will I study?
Over two years you will work on all aspects of print, radio, TV and film. You will explore all stages of media production: Pre-production: consultation with clients; generating ideas; media research; scriptwriting (news, documentary, advertising, drama, comedy); pre-production management and organisation. Production: video, TV and film production; print and photography design and layout; production management and organisation. Post-production: editing, drafting, revising, audience feedback and marketing.
What will I achieve?
You can choose one of two routes:
- The twelve unit National Diploma which is equivalent to two A-Levels in Media
- The eighteen unit National Extended Diploma which is the equivalent of three A-Levels in Media
How is the course assessed?
All assessment is by coursework. This will involve a great deal of practical work, but you will not only be assessed on the products you produce. As in the real world of Media, you will also be assessed on your organisational skills, reliability, ability to work in a team, inventiveness, initiative, adaptability and creativity. To show all of this you will need to keep careful records and logs of all you have done and to organise your work into a portfolio which showcases all your strengths.
What else will I do?
You will have the opportunity to use your skills on a number of enrichment courses like the TV crew or the Pendleton News Team as well as visits as part of your course to local cinemas and to media companies and the Museum of Film, Television and Photography in Bradford. Recently our students have been involved in radio broadcasts on the BBC, have presented their own regular show on Salford Community Radio and some outstanding students have been on work experience as crew members on a BBC drama production.
