* Please note that we are not able to sponsor students on this programme for a Tier 4 visa. *   This new part-time qualification has been developed to give students a deeper understanding of the skills and methods required for successful mediation and conflict management. It incorporates Regent’s existing five-day Mediation & Alternative Dispute Resolution course as a module and goes further with two modules that provide an overview of the theoretical frameworks relevant to conflict resolution and mediation.   Why should I choose this programme? The programme is unique in its psychological approach. It covers the psychological principles underpinning conflict, and gives students the opportunity to apply a variety of approaches to the prevention, avoidance, management and resolution of disputes. Although of benefit to members of the legal professions, the programme is relevant to a wider audience.
In disputes across a vast range of sectors, the parties involved want an accredited mediator who is not a lawyer but has an in-depth knowledge of the theory and practical application of mediation in conflict situations. This is a part-time course designed to fit around students’ existing work commitments. It is aimed not only at current and prospective professional mediators, but at anyone who is likely to encounter conflict on a day-to-day basis.  In addition, Regent's University London alumni who have already successfully completed the existing Mediation & Alternative Dispute Resolution five-day course (within seven years of commencing the Postgraduate Certificate in Mediation & Conflict Resolution) are exempt from completing the Alternative Dispute Resolution module and pay a reduced fee of £3,550. Course programme

Length

The Theories of Conflict and Applied Theory modules are delivered by lectures and seminar groups that are delivered over a series of weekends (9:30 - 17:30). Each of these modules will run over 11 teaching weeks.

Spring 2017 semester (Module 1: Theories of Conflict):

Friday 20 - Saturday 21 January

Friday 24 - Sunday 26 February

Friday 7 - Saturday 8 April

Summer 2017 semester (Module 2: Applied Theory):

Friday 30 June - Saturday 1 July

Friday 28 - Sunday 30 July

Friday 15 - Saturday 16 September

The third Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) module is delivered over five days, with lectures, training exercises and supervised mediation role-plays focusing on effective communication in both professional and personal environments. The module runs independently at 5 different times during the academic year.

Our teachers are all experienced accredited mediators, trainers, lecturers and authors, with backgrounds predominantly in law and psychotherapy.

Modules

The programme comprises three modules:

  • Theories of Conflict - 20 credits
  • Applied Theory - 20 credits
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (five available entry points) - 20 credits

Theories of Conflict provides an overview of relevant theoretical frameworks, while Applied Theory offers an insight into how different approaches to conflict resolution and mediation work in practice.

There are five available entry points during the year for the Alternative Dispute Resolution module for you to choose from. We advise students to join the Alternative Dispute Resolution module during one of the summer term entry points.

Note that Regent's University London alumni who have already successfully completed the existing Mediation & Alternative Dispute Resolution 5-day course up to seven years prior to commencing the Postgraduate Certificate in Mediation & Conflict Resolution programme, will be exempt from completing the Alternative Dispute Resolution module.
