Designed by oncologists, for oncologists in partnership with the Royal College of Radiologists this specialist certificate will enable you to analyse everyday teaching and learning opportunities while proposing new, enhanced approaches to trainee development through extending your knowledge and skills as an educator in the oncology field.
At the Centre for Medical Education at the University of Dundee we’ve been enabling medical educators to reach their goals and train healthcare professionals of the future for over 40 years. We deliver wide-ranging courses aimed at those new to teaching and training and those who wish to advance their skills and knowledge in medical education and we pride ourselves in the quality of our interactive and engaging courses.
Our flexible courses have seen over 3,500 students graduate with a Certificate, Diploma or Masters in Medical Education. Based on a modular structure the medical education course has three award levels (Certificate, Diploma and Masters). The Postgraduate Certificate is accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME).

The first two modules establish core principles of teaching, learning and assessment. The oncology module includes revisiting learning, teaching and assessment in oncology contexts, teaching undergraduates, postgraduates and peers, learning with and from patients, professionalism and multidisciplinary learning and the future of learning in oncology.
Delivered through an online learning environment each module is 12 weeks long and core modules start in January, May and September of each year. The specialist oncology module runs once a year in January.

- All teaching on our postgraduate programmes in Medical Education is delivered through an online virtual learning environment and incorporates a range of exciting interactive teaching.
- These resources enable regular peer and tutor interaction and include podcasts, blogs, discussion boards, webinars, video clips and formative feedback.
- Each module is 200 hours notional study which is built around tutor-delivered material, peer discussion, directed self-study and assignments.
- You are supported with an online induction module which promotes familiarity with the tools, processes and facilities available to you during your academic journey with us.
- The majority of the material is asynchronous, allowing you to plan your own timetable of study.
- Each module is assessed via written assignments – there are no exams.
- Your assignments will be contextualised to your own setting allowing you to demonstrate the application of theory, concepts and principles to your own work-based practice.
- We encourage you to self-evaluate and critically reflect on your learning with your tutor proving feedback on your self-evaluation as well as your final assignment.
- Students can undertake work in their own time in accordance with their schedule working to the fixed final assessment deadline(s) for each module intake.
- The summative assignment submission deadline is in week 12 for each 20 credit module.
