Description
The objectives of the Medical Engineering programme are:
To provide students with a solid background in the design and analysis of civil engineering structures.
To build engineering skills of critical importance when working in industry, including the ability to break a complex engineering problem into its component parts, to sketch/model engineering solutions and to be able to understand and prepare technical reports.
To build awareness of current design practices through the use of the latest engineering standards (e.g. Eurocodes).
To nurture computer modelling skills by encouraging students to develop their own software with the final purpose of analysing realistic civil engineering problems.
To build critical awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of different design approaches when facing a civil engineering problem, including aspects such as environmental constraints, economy or health and safety.

NOTE : The optional modules EGA103 and EG-166 are chosen depending on the qualifications and academic background of each student. Students who have not done chemistry in their A-levels (or equivalent) will have to choose Foundation Chemistry (EGA103). Students that have taken chemistry, but have not taken physics/mechanics in their A-levels will have to choose Engineering Mechanics (EG-166). All remaining students should choose one of these options.
