Module 1-Mental Capacity Act
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop an understanding of the legal principles that apply to the Mental Capacity Act
- Understand the framework to be followed when an individual is suspected of lacking capacity
- Know the different ways in which we can all plan for the future
- Be aware of disagreements that can arise with regards to the Mental Capacity Act and know what to do when they occur.

Module 2-Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the current legislation concerning Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS)
- Understand how DOLS is linked to the Mental Capacity Act and why protection from being deprived of liberties is required
- Know who is affected by DOLS
- Understand the principles of the DOLS legislation, including the; Code of Practice, assessment process, authorisations and best interest decisions
- Understand the procedure to follow if it is suspected that a person is being deprived of their liberties.

COURSE ASSESSMENT

This course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor following standard guidelines. This assignment requires students to use various techniques to form arguments and conclusions including: analysing data, understanding different approaches and forming theories based on evidence.

We send the full course out with the units listed above, you then read through the course in your own time and complete the assignments which you send to your tutor for marking. There is no word count for these assignments. However, one sentence answers will be rejected and you will have to re-submit it for marking.

Upon successful completion of the 2 modules, students will receive a certificate of achievement.
