Statistics show that black and ethnic minority groups are over-represented in mental health services, come
late to treatment and frequently receive poor care and treatment. In this participative course, we will explore different experiences of mental health using a selection of videos and articles to help explore mental health through different cultural lenses. We will focus on what we can learn about the relationships between ethnicity, culture, social class, traditions and beliefs about health and illness. We will also identify how mental ill-health impacts families and communities and explore what support is on offer.
