About this course
An upper second (2:2) honours degree or above, or equivalent in mental health or addictions or a related subject area
A minimum of two years experience in the mental health or addiction fields if holding a professional qualification in nursing, social work or allied discipline
A professional qualification (e.g. medicine, nursing, social work, psychology or an allied discipline)
Recent post-qualification experience of working with service users with mental health and substance use issues

Course programme
Course content
What will you study on the MSc Mental Health and Substance Use (Dual Diagnosis)? Modules
You must achieve a maximum of 180 credits to complete this course. Students who register for this course must have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Dual Diagnosis or have been successful at an Accredited Prior Learning claim, and thus will carry forward 60 credits at Level 7.
Year 1 - Autumn term and winter/spring term
- Foundation in Working with Dual Diagnosis (30 credits at level 7)
- Assessment and Treatment in Dual Diagnosis (30 credits at level 7)
- Leading and Developing for Public and Community services (15 credits at level 7)
- Service Development and Quality Improvement (15 credits at level 7)
Year 2 - Autumn term and winter/spring term
In this year you will choose the following options:
- Social Research Methods (30 credits at level 7) (run on campus, autumn term only) or Advanced Practitioner Enquiry (30 credits at level 7) (running twice a year, distance learning)
- Dissertation or Negotiated Work based learning project (60 credits at level 7)
