Course Description
Mentoring: a form of support, help, guidance or role model.
The course is aimed at providing students with a basic understanding of mentoring skills, theoretical underpinning and an opportunity for practice and personal development.
We will focus on key theoretical models which can be applied to a mentoring context and the skills needed to become an effective helper.
We will look at areas such as creating a positive relationship, building rapport, non-verbal communication, listening, motivation, self esteem and much more.
The main principles will be
There will also be an opportunity to develop links with external agencies for possible voluntary placement*
The course currently has Working Towards status for Approved Provider Standard (APS) which is a recognised quality award.
Assessment
There will be three key pieces of assessment
*subject to individual organisations policy/approval & CRB check.

- A reflective case study on a mentoring relationship & skills used
- Completion of a mentoring booklet & portfolio
