Supporting and Assessing Learning in Practice Settings CPPD

• Overview

This module introduces you to core aspects of supporting students or colleagues (learners) to develop professional knowledge, attitudes and skills in the workplace. The module is approved by the NMC and draws upon both the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2008) Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice, and Standards for Education and Training (Health Professions Council 2005). You will be encouraged to apply these standards in developing skills of supporting learning in the workplace, ranging from planning learning activities through to evaluation of the learner's performance and competency.

As this module is available to a wide range of health and social care professionals, you will have opportunities to share practice experiences and increase your understanding of inter-professional collaboration. Discussion is an essential aspect of both this module and your practice and you will be expected to participate in group activities with fellow students in class and on the online discussion boards. These activities are designed to help you to develop your understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of the mentorship role and to further develop your problem-solving skills in a supportive and confidential environment.

This module can be taken as part of the BSc Nursing Studies top up degree. If you wish to complete a top-up degree, please apply directly on the Nursing Studies programme webpage. If you would still like to complete this module as a CPPD student but would like to complete a top-up degree at a later date, please note that you will only be able to transfer a maximum of 30 credits which have been awarded within 5 years prior to the start date of the programme (top-up degree). Non EEA students can only apply as part of a programme, not as a stand-alone module.

• You must be a qualified health-care professional registered to practice in the UK.

The module requires you to be:

• Working in a suitable practice area
• Have a clinical mentor.
• Be working with or have access to a pre-registration student or second registration student

Please Note: If you wish to study for this module at City University, which is a degree level module and do not have a diploma, you will need to complete the APEL module beforehand.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:

• IELTS: 7.0

Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs we are no longer able to accept TOEFL as evidence of English language for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.
