Sea Service during which the cadet collects evidence for training record book. WBL element of National Certificate. About 29 weeks. Phase 3. A college phase during which the HNC Nautical Science is delivered and GMDSS mandatory short course.

Phase 1

Phase 4 Sea Service during which practical skills are acquired and training record book evidence is collected.

Phase 5
College phase. MCA oral exam preparation and mandatory short courses.
14 weeks
Phase 5 (additional)
College phase. Delivery of HND programme.
24 weeks
Qualifications achieved:
* National Certificate in Maritime Operations
* HNC/HND in Nautical Science
* Certificate of Competency (Operational Level)
Progression opportunities:
Further periods of sea service and study lead to the award of the MCA Chief Mate Certificate of Competency and then Master Certificate of Competency qualifying the holder to serve as Master of a Merchant vessel.
