To give attendees a basic understanding of metallurgy, and to appreciate the issues involved in the production of metals and alloys. The emphasis is on ferrous metallurgy. Suitable for: Personnel involved in the production, processing, fabricating, utilising and selling of metals, although the emphasis will be on steel. They may be new or experienced personnel from technical or non-technical backgrounds, and from a variety of business functions.

Course Manager
Ian Martin has been working in research and development for 30 years specialising in structure property relationships and the effect of processing on the mechanical properties in a variety of steels. He is currently employed by Corus RD&T at Swinden Technology Centre.
Course programme
This two day course is designed to give attendees a basic understanding of metallurgy, and to appreciate the issues involved in the production of metals and alloys. The emphasis is on ferrous metallurgy. The presenters will be pleased to answer any questions not addressed in the talks.

- Mechanical Testing & Metallography - generating the information given in the standards and on the test certificates
- Tour and Demonstrations in the Corus RD&T Mechanical Testing & Optical Metallography Laboratories
