On this 2 day foundation workshop participants will be introduced to mindfulness strategies to help manage stress in the workplace and promote personal well-being. Whilst the focus is on health professionals managing their own stress, some participants will find it helpful in developing their understanding of how mindfulness could be of benefit to their patients/clients. There is a broad and widening evidence base for the use of mindfulness to better manage stress, pain and illness.
The aims of this course are:To introduce you to a range of mindfulness practices that will help your own stress management at workTo develop a clear understanding of how mindfulness can support your work as a health professionalTo develop your understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of mindfulness and your understanding of the relationship of mindfulness to stress physiology, stress reduction and cognitive psychologyTo enable you to begin to identify and explore how mindfulness practices might be used in your own work settingTo identify how you can take this work further if you would like to.The course will cover the following topics:What mindfulness isAn introduction to a range of formal and informal mindfulness practicesIncreased awareness of ‘Self’ including body awareness and awareness of thoughts and emotionsThe underlying theoretical background of mindfulnessWhat mindfulness-based interventions are and how they workThe relationship of mindfulness to stress physiology, stress reduction and cognitive psychologyThe relevance of mindfulness work to health and wellbeing. Teaching and Assessment
The two days will be mixture of whole group and small group work. Whilst there will be some didactic input on theory, the workshop will be primarily experiential with considerable time to practise mindfulness There will be opportunities to give and receive feedback.
