Course programme
A painting support or canvas can accommodate much more than just paint alone. Join us for a hands-on exploration and learn to effectively use mixed media in your practice. We’ll show you how to use a range of techniques including collage on canvas and photo-transfer processes, combining text, texture, paint and found objects onto canvas and board, with the intent of creating exciting mixed media works.
With guidance from a professional artist, you will undertake a series of exercises examining a range of canvas collage methods, as well as undertaking your own self-initiated project. You will also take a look at the history of mixed media painting and the artists who use it – including, Robert Rauschenberg, Kurt Schwitters and Chelsea College of Arts Alumni such as Chris Ofili and John Latham.
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have gained confidence in using mixed media and you will have learned a number of collage on canvas techniques for doing so. You will also have an understanding of how mixed media painting has evolved through the 20th century and how to incorporate it into your work.
Who Should Attend
Anyone who is excited by the idea of taking a painting beyond the surface of a canvas. You may have some experience of painting or be a complete beginner.
