This course follows on from either the Taster Day or the On Track Course, but you can join without having been on either. It is for people who want to develop, or continue to develop their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills, with other adult learners in a relaxed and informal setting. It will give you the chance to develop your skills in group discussion and written language.

About this course
There are no formal qualifications required; entry is by interview and an initial skills check to make sure that the course is suitable for you. The experience and life skills that students can bring to the course will be welcomed.

Course programme
Course Overview
This course follows on from either the Taster Day or the On Track Course, but you can join without having been on either.
It is for people who want to develop, or continue to develop their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills, with other adult learners in a relaxed and informal setting.
It will give you the chance to develop your skills in group discussion and written language. It will look at language rules and encourage you to develop your reading and understanding of fiction / nonfiction / poetry and drama.
Course Structure
Teaching support and advice are provided to allow students to improve existing skills and learn new ones. Students also have use of our fully equipped Skills Centre.
After Move On students may wish to develop their skills to include maths and ICT on the Fresh Start course.
Students may also want to join the Evening Workshop.
Students who have difficulties with study times can be considered.
Qualification Aims
A nationally recognised qualification in Literacy at Level 1 or Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) as is suited to each student.
Assessments/Examinations
Students will be working towards nationally recognised qualifications in Literacy at various levels using a portfolio of work. In addition on-line and paper based tests are available where this is suitable.
