Moving and Handling

Moving and handling injuries account for the highest proportion of absence among health and social care staff. Good training is essential to protect staff and service users from injury and safeguard your business.

This half day course covers the theory and practice of safe manual handling. All staff who may be required to move a service user should attend this course.

You need to be physically fit to attend the course: this course is not suitable for trainees with medical problems that could be exacerbated by moving and handling. Sensible shoes and trousers should be worn. You will be asked to sign a disclaimer on the day. Please call us if you have any doubts or queries. This course does not include hoist training (usually available by supplier).

The course covers

  • Legislation
  • Employers and employees responsibility
  • Anatomy and physiology of the spine
  • Risk Assessment
  • Principles of safe handling
  • Safe moving and handling techniques
  • Practical and problem solving
  • Range of aids available (all shown and some demonstrated)
  • Video demonstrating safe moving and handling and techniques
  • Video demonstrating banned and unsafe moves
  • Full course handout with pictures of moves.

Please wear trousers and suitable shoes for this course.
