What is the Moving On in IT course? This course is designed for those who have completed the Building on the Basics in Computing course or who already have some computer skills in using email, internet and creating simple Word Processing documents. Students will learn how to use Microsoft Office to improve their computer skills and learn new ones on spreadsheets, mail merge, file etc.

Students MUST have attended at least -Improving your Computer Skills†course or have good skills using MS Word. What is the Moving On in IT course?
This course is designed for those who have completed the Building on the Basics in Computing course or who already have some computer skills in using email, internet and creating simple -Word Processing documents.
Students will learn how to use Microsoft Office to improve their computer skills and learn new ones on spreadsheets, mail merge, file management and templates. They will gain confidence in using the computer for use at work and home. This course should be considered as the pre-requisite for the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or ITQ Level 2.
Course topics
- Use basic spreadsheets to perform calculations using Excel
- Create charts and graphs using Excel
- Use Excel and/or Word to create your address book
- Create labels from your address book
- Send personalised letters to various persons from your address book (mail merge)
- Create personalised labels from your address book
- Create various templates for letters (personal, business etc)
- File management create folders/sub folders, rename, move & copy files
Sort by type, Use Ctrl/Shift to select files, file extensions, Saving to USB/memory stick, Using the recycle bin.
- Course revision
This course is tutor-led in a dedicated IT room where every student will have use of their own computer. Although it is not a requirement, it does help you gain confidence if you are able to practise in between lessons on a computer at home.

There are no formal assessments with this course.
