Structure

MSc Burn Care is available to study part-time, over 2 years, by distance learning.

• Our course is the only burns specific and exclusively distance learning programme in the world.
• A truly international course with students, staff and alumni from all around the globe.
• A small select number of students allows for excellent student support and personalised input from the course faculty.
• Recent collaboration with Imperial University, London (provision of burns simulation sessions during clinical days) is an example of how the department utilises the latest education trends.
• Close collaboration with South East Burns Network burn facilities to enhance clinical immersion.
• Regular updates on materials to match the rapidly evolving burn care provision.
• Unique historical video materials including footage of Z. Janzekovic, Maribor, Slovenia performing tangential excision and grafting.

The course has been designed so that students can continue working full-time in their current employment whilst studying the degree. A succinct material delivery format and realistic assignment deadlines are structured to allow students to pace their work accordingly.

Typically students will need to allocate 4 – 6 hours of study per week.

Additionally, there are online tutorials every month on Adobe Connect / Skype using a variety of modalities (lectures, case-based discussions, journal club) and these are delivered by various burns specialists. These are not compulsory and happen in the evenings/weekends (time zones considered), so that people can attend after work.

Clinical days aim to deliver clinical immersion through visits to burn /academic units or sponsored conference attendances in the UK and overseas. These provide the opportunity for students and faculty to meet and expand their professional network.

Previous venues have included Vienna/Austria, Munich/Germany, Marrakech/Morocco, Maribor/Slovenia, Broomfield Burn Unit/UK and National Skin Bank, Liverpool, UK.

These days are not compulsory but highly recommended to enhance knowledge, meet fellow students and the academics, and to increase your overall knowledge of the subject area.
