Overview
How does the policy making process work at the international level?
Why are some global problems, such as poverty, so difficult to solve?
How might states, international organisations, NGOs and the private sector better cooperate to solve global problems?
Combining the study of international relations with an analysis of public policy formulation and state governance, this programme will provide you with an advanced understanding of how political institutions and processes operate in international politics, and how policy is made. You will be introduced to central issues such as theories of the policy-making process, alongside current themes and issues in international politics.
This programme will:
Provide a strong core training in international relations and public policy
Allow you to choose from a wide range of option modules that best reflect your interests
Develop a strong grasp of the theoretical tools and empirical evidence necessary for an in-depth understanding of policy-making in international politics.

Course programme

Structure

The MSc in International Public Policy is currently available for one year full-time study, or two years part-time study. You will study a combination of compulsory modules and also have a choice of optional modules. You will also complete a dissertation of 12,000 words.

Optional Modules:

You will choose one optional module in Semester 2 from the list below.

  • Globalisation and the International Political Economy of Development
  • EU as an International Actor
  • Placement Module (Distance Learning students only*)

*Please note that the School of Politics and International Relations does not organise student placements for this programme. The placement module is intended for students who are currently working in a recognised organisation or can arrange a placement themselves.
