About this course

Our Mental Health Recovery and Social Inclusion postgraduate degrees will provide you with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in the recovery and social inclusion of people experiencing mental distress. The programme aims to:

provide you with the knowledge and skills to work with service users, carers, and agencies, to develop policies and practice and manage mental health work to aid the recovery and social inclusion of people experiencing mental distress
enable you to develop an understanding of national and international processes for, and developments in, the recovery and social inclusion of people experiencing mental distress.
Our student body is made up of people with lived and learned experience of mental health and distress. This creates exciting multi-dimensional conversations about issues such as leadership, participation, collaboration and involvement. You'll experience and understand how the lived and the learned experiences can cohabit in interesting spaces in mental health education and practice to encourage organisational innovation and change. Through learning about recovery and social inclusion, youl be able to adapt approaches and understanding of recovery journeys with a fundamental philosophy about enabling students to bring innovation and change to practice.

All our students choose to study our programme to gain a better understanding of MHRSI and find this learning journey enriching and transformational. Our postgraduates use their knowledge and experience in a variety of careers to further their roles within a range of health and care services. They find that being a postgraduate of MHRSI gives them the expertise so that they can progress within their chosen career.

What will I study?

The programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills and other attributes in the following areas.

The programme is steeped in up-to-date research and encourages engagement and collaboration between students from multiple perspectives about the challenges and discourse in the mental health recovery and social inclusion arena. We aim to provide graduates with the intellectual, practical and transferable skills to be successful mental health practitioners. Course length

Part-time, 3 years with an option to shorten to 2 years upon consultation with the Programme Leader.

Study hours

Study hours will vary depending on your prior knowledge and experience with the subject. The expectation for a 30-credit module is to study 20-25 hours per week over 12 weeks.

Course delivery

The course is delivered 100% online via the university's virtual learning environment StudyNet. It can be studied flexibly, which allows you to fit your studies around your work and life commitments anywhere in the world. There are no attendance requirements, although you will be offered at least two individual online tutorials and two group tutorials, as well as regular contact with tutors. Study options

Students are able to study at their own pace and can either speed up or slow down depending on changing personal circumstances. The timings below are only a guide and you can choose to complete a course at your own pace and even change awards as you progress through your studies.
  • Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert): one year part-time over two semesters (60 credits).
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip): two years part-time over four semesters (120 credits).
  • Postgraduate Masters (MSc): three years part-time (over seven semesters) with potential to complete in two years following a discussion with the Programme Leader.
Assessment

All assessment is by coursework. The dates of assignment submission are fixed. If you cannot meet the assignment deadlines, you must inform the Module Leader in advance of the deadlines to get appropriate advice.
