About this course
5 GCSEs at Grade A* - C in 4 different subjects including English or English Literature and C in Music or pass in Grade 5 theory; the ability to play an instrument or sing to at least Grade V ABRSM.

What will I study?
AS:

UNIT 6 Further Musical Understanding through the study of 12 pieces set by the examination board.
Study Visits
Many students are already involved in local bands, choirs and orchestras and are encouraged to continue throughout the course.
Cost
Individual instrumental and vocal lessons are subsidised, but students are expected to contribute to the cost of these.
Assessment
AS:
UNIT 1 the production of 5-6 minutes of solo and/or ensemble performance, which is internally assessed and externally moderated.
UNIT 2 the production of a piece of original composition lasting 3 minutes. Externally assessed.
UNIT 3 a 2-hour examination that includes a listening test and questions about the styles and techniques used in the set works.
A2:
UNIT 4 the production of 12-15 minutes of solo and/or ensemble performance, which is internally assessed and externally moderated.
UNIT 5 the production or 2 pieces of work, either harmony or composition.
UNIT 6 a 2 hour examination that includes a listening test and questions about the styles and techniques used in the set works.
Useful Supporting Courses
The course links very well with Music Technology, Performing Arts and all other arts subjects. Some students also study Mathematics and the course is an excellent broad preparation for further study and careers such as performer, teacher, arts administrator, musical instrument designer/ restorer / repairer, or in retail and publishing.
