Partnering is a key discipline in dance training. By watching the interaction between great dance partners and the music they dance to, we can be absorbed into their characters and feel their emotions as our own. In Romantic and Classical ballet, the names and reputations of great partnerships have come down to us through pictures and reviews documenting their successes. In more modern times, we have film to show us partners telling the story: falling in love, expressing despair or joy, all through movement and gesture - in ballet, in stage musicals, and on the big screen. We will be looking at film clips of ballet and dance old and new to watch how the relationship between the dancers is beamed directly to our emotional centre. Tutor: Pauline Greene [external website].
