Course programme

Course overview

You will learn the fundamentals of how the media industry operates, how to develop and grow ideas and how to sell those ideas locally, nationally and globally. You will gain a sound understanding of business and financial concepts, in particular how they are applied in the context of the music and creative industries.

In addition to building your understanding of the workings of this sector, there is a practical component to the course which will give you an insight into the development and use of operations tools and IT applications for business.

Careers and professional development

The development of MediaCityUK in Salford, which is scheduled for completion around 2011 and which will include five BBC departments, is expected to create around 10,000 to 15,000 jobs, many of them in the music and creative industries.

Study on this course will enable you to develop the necessary industry-specific skills to enter full-time employment in the music industry or set up your own music business. Career opportunities exist in many areas of the industry including television and radio production, IPTV, music for games design and music.
